The Best Time of Year to Buy a Home
As the seasons are beginning to change, you may begin to wonder when the best time of year to buy a home is. Speaking logistically, there are two days of the year that are the cheapest days to buy a home: Christmas Day and Easter Sunday. While it’s unlikely you want to buy a home on these days, it can certainly save you a great deal of money.
Winter is typically a slow season for sellers, and their prices reflect that. Less competition makes negotiation more possible. In addition, the holidays put people in a joyous and giving mood. It’s likely that if their realtor contacts them saying there’s been an offer a little under asking price, they’ll feel generous and accept. The caveat to this is finding a realtor who is willing to work during this time of year.
Similarly, the fall and winter are not typically times when people want to be moving, so this lack of competition is reflected on the market making it cheaper. Not only will this benefit you, but the realtor will also be eager to work during this time since is is typically a slow time of year. So don’t allow yourself to be fooled that the time to buy is over. If anything, it’s just getting started.
