Five Questions to Ask a Home Inspector and When

You may find yourself out of your element during a home inspection. Today’s guide is meant to catch you up on what you need to know about the home inspection process. There are essentially five questions that you should not hesitate from asking.

First and foremost, don’t be afraid to ask “What does that mean?”. It’s likely that your home inspector may use some terms you’re unfamiliar with; if that’s the case, ask them to break it down for you. This is not uncommon and they will appreciate you asking questions. Next, you should always follow up in asking how big of a deal something is. Sometimes, some issues may be incredibly minor and not something to worry about.

Similarly, if there is something you have noticed in your home but are unaware if it’s a problem, point it out to them. Many people are typically nervous of doing this as they feel they’re only hurting themselves, but that’s not the case. In addition, if there’s something in your home that you don’t know how to maintain such as an HVAC, boiler, etc. ask your inspector and they will likely be able to tell you about it. Lastly, ask the inspector what their biggest concern about your property is. This could be in the present day, or ten years down the road. Regardless, it will offer you some insight into what you should keep an eye out for. Good luck!
